What is the ORBERA™ Balloon?
The ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon is part of the ORBERA™ Managed Weight Loss System, a 12-month program that helps adult patients suffering from obesity in losing and maintaining weight. The non-surgical weight loss procedure is FDA approved and a great option for those who don’t want or qualify for bariatric surgery.
Benefits of ORBERA include:
- Lose 3.1x more weight than with diet and exercise alone.
- No scars, stitches or incisions!
- 20-30 minute procedure. Most patients go home the same day.
- Unlike permanent surgical alterations, the ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon is temporary.
How does the ORBERA™ Balloon work?
ORBERA is a simple, non-surgical outpatient procedure. The physician will insert a deflated silicone balloon into your stomach via an endoscopy, and then fill it with a safe saline solution until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The balloon takes up space in your stomach, encouraging portion control and creating a feeling of fullness even after small meals.
The balloon remains in your stomach for 6 months, during which you will receive diet and exercise coaching from a team of experts. ORBERA gives you an edge on your weight loss journey, as you establish healthy eating and exercise habits.
Similar to placement, the balloon is removed through a quick, non-surgical procedure. The final 6 months of the program are focused on continuing your diet and exercise coaching to maintain your new weight. Check out the video below for more information.
